Les améliorations récentes apportées à la gestion des réserves de change du Canada
La taille et la complexité des réserves de change s’étant accrues au fil des ans, les améliorations apportées au cadre de gestion de ces avoirs ont dû soutenir le rythme. C’est une situation à laquelle se trouvent confrontés la plupart des gestionnaires de réserves du monde. Au Canada, les améliorations ont porté sur la gouvernance, la gestion de portefeuille, la mesure des risques et la gestion des risques. Le présent article décrit brièvement ces améliorations, les motifs qui ont conduit à leur mise en oeuvre et certains des enseignements qui ont été tirés en cours de route. -

Enquête sur l'activité des marchés des changes et des produits dérivés au Canada
En avril 1998, la Banque du Canada a mené sa plus récente enquête triennale sur l'activité des marchés canadiens des changes et des produits dérivés. Celle-ci s'inscrivait dans le cadre d'une initiative internationale à laquelle ont participé 43 pays, qui ont mené des enquêtes similaires. Le marché des changes au Canada est le onzième en importance au monde, et le dollar canadien occupe le septième rang des monnaies les plus utilisées. Depuis l'enquête précédente, effectuée en 1995, le volume quotidien moyen des opérations de change traditionnelles a augmenté de 23 % (pour s'établir à 37 milliards de dollars É.-U.). Bien que cette hausse soit considérable, on observe que le taux d'accroissement a diminué de façon constante depuis la première enquête menée en 1983. Le volume quotidien moyen des opérations relatives aux contrats de taux d'intérêt dans la même monnaie s'est chiffré en avril 1998 à 6,4 milliards de dollars É.-U., ce qui constitue une hausse de 48 % par rapport à l'enquête précédente. -
