Les auteurs constatent que si une plus grande intégration financière mondiale est avantageuse, les entrées de capitaux étrangers peuvent également favoriser l’accentuation des vulnérabilités financières au pays et sont susceptibles d’entraîner des renversements déstabilisateurs. La position extérieure actuelle du Canada est typique d’une économie avancée et continuera sans doute à agir comme stabilisateur économique. Toutefois, la croissance et la composition de cette position doivent faire l’objet d’une surveillance continue. -

Cotation à la criée et cotation électronique dans les bourses de contrats à terme
Malgré les gains d'efficience liés à l'automatisation, la plupart des grandes bourses de contrats à terme se sont montrées peu empressées à se retirer des parquets traditionnels, car des données préliminaires incitaient à croire que les marchés à la criée étaient plus liquides que les marchés électroniques. Toutefois, des travaux plus récents donnent à penser que la négociation électronique est supérieure à la cotation à la criée à maints égards, y compris sur le plan de la liquidité. Dans le présent article, l'auteur compare les deux modes de négociation. Bien que de nombreuses bourses s'orientent désormais vers la négociation électronique, cette évolution se heurte encore à divers obstacles. Cependant, face à la chute rapide des coûts de l'automatisation que permet le progrès technique et aux pressions croissantes en faveur de marchés ouverts 24 heures sur 24 et intégrés à l'échelle internationale, l'implantation graduelle de systèmes électroniques d'appariement des ordres dans le monde entier marquera vraisemblablement la prochaine étape importante dans l'évolution des bourses de contrats à terme. Les bourses moins automatisées (dont les bourses de contrats à terme canadiennes) continueront assurément d'étudier et de promouvoir l'automatisation afin de soutenir le rythme des innovations techniques. -

Le rôle de la gestion des stocks dans les fluctuations de l'économie canadienne
Les variations des investissements en stocks ont joué dans le passé un rôle majeur dans l'évolution des cycles économiques au Canada. Cependant, l'amélioration des techniques de contrôle des stocks et le recul de l'incertitude lié à la baisse de l'inflation ont permis aux entreprises de gérer leurs stocks de façon beaucoup plus stricte et efficace. Dans cet article, l'auteur traite de l'évolution récente de la gestion des stocks dans le secteur commercial non agricole au Canada, sur le plan tant global que sectoriel, et analyse les répercussions de cette évolution sur le rôle des stocks comme source de fluctuations économiques.
