Les recherches récentes établissent une corrélation positive entre la fréquence des prêts de moindre qualité et la croissance de la titrisation. Pour certains, le lien tient au fait que les émetteurs ne sont pas incités à bien sélectionner les emprunteurs et à suivre de près le rendement des prêts titrisés; d'autres mettent plutôt en cause des facteurs comme les méthodes de gestion des bilans. Il n'est par conséquent pas facile de déterminer l'origine de la multiplication des prêts de piètre qualité en période d'essor rapide de la titrisation. L'auteure examine les conflits d'intérêts entre les parties engagées dans le processus de titrisation et leur rôle dans la tourmente financière et présente les propositions réglementaires et les solutions récemment mises en avant afin de résoudre les problèmes de délégation. -

Nous évaluons les implications macroéconomiques complexes de la récente hausse démographique au Canada. Nous constatons que les nouveaux arrivants stimulent fortement la croissance potentielle non inflationniste de l’économie, mais que les déséquilibres déjà présents dans le secteur du logement pourraient être aggravés. L’offre de logements doit être accrue pour compléter les gains économiques à long terme découlant de la croissance de la population. -

L'évolution récente du marché du travail au Canada
Au cours de l'année et demie qui s'est écoulée jusqu'au milieu de 2003, l'emploi et le taux d'activité global ont tous deux progressé à un rythme exceptionnellement rapide comparativement à l'activité économique intérieure. La progression de l'emploi a été anormalement vigoureuse par rapport à celle de la production, ce qui n'a pas été le cas du nombre total d'heures travaillées. La cause en est la montée du taux d'activité des personnes de 55 ans et plus, qui ont choisi pour bon nombre d'entre elles un emploi à temps partiel. Cette modification de la composition de l'emploi a contribué à la réduction de la durée moyenne de la semaine de travail en 2002. L'apport de travail a donc progressé bien plus lentement que l'emploi et de façon plus conforme à sa relation passée avec la production. Les auteurs prévoient que les hommes et les femmes de 55 ans et plus continueront de prendre une part active à l'activité globale, mais sous l'effet de la relance de l'économie et de la réduction de l'incertitude, la composante cyclique de la croissance de l'emploi à temps partiel devrait diminuer et celle de l'emploi à temps plein augmenter. Nous devrions donc observer une progression plus modérée de l'emploi par rapport à la production. Nous pourrions en outre être témoins d'un redressement cyclique de la croissance de la productivité du travail, étant donné que le nombre total d'heures travaillées pourrait s'accroître lentement dans les premiers stades de la reprise de l'activité économique.
