Le cycle de vie des obligations du gouvernement du Canada sur les marchés de financement essentiels
Les données dont nous disposons sur l’utilisation des titres d’État au sein du marché des pensions, du marché des prêts de titres et du marché au comptant tendent à montrer qu’il existe des clientèles distinctes sur le marché obligataire canadien. Les obligations à court terme sont plus présentes sur le marché des pensions, alors que les instruments à long terme sont davantage utilisés sur le marché des prêts de titres. Ce constat, qui conforte la théorie de l’habitat préféré, pourrait aider à améliorer la stratégie de gestion de la dette ainsi que l’efficacité des politiques contribuant à la préservation du bon fonctionnement des marchés financiers. -

La réglementation bancaire suppose que les risques se propagent plus facilement des grandes banques au système bancaire que dans le sens inverse. Nous notons le contraire, soit qu’ils se transmettent davantage du système aux banques, ce qui accroît le risque de défaillance. -

Kryvtsov et Midrigan (2010a et b) testent la validité de cette conclusion en confrontant les prédictions d'une théorie fondée sur l'existence de rigidités nominales et de biens stockables avec le comportement effectif des stocks aux États-Unis. -

Has Liquidity in Canadian Government Bond Markets Deteriorated?
Cette note vise à décrire les mesures de la liquidité qui servent à la Banque du Canada à évaluer les conditions de marché. Une analyse des récentes tendances qui se dégagent du comportement de la liquidité du marché des titres à revenu fixe du gouvernement du Canada est faite. D’après nos résultats, les mesures utilisées par la Banque se sont améliorées depuis la crise financière. Par ailleurs, la liquidité du marché des titres du gouvernement canadien s’est dégradée dans la foulée de plusieurs événements qui ont été porteurs de tensions : la crise de l’euro en 2011, l’épisode de forte volatilité qui a suivi les commentaires de Ben Bernanke en 2013 (taper tandrum) et le choc des prix du pétrole en 2015. Dans les trois cas, la détérioration observée est restée dans les normes, puis la liquidité a retrouvé son niveau habituel.
