A Framework for Analyzing Monetary Policy in an Economy with E-money
Dans cette étude, nous analysons une économie où la monnaie fiduciaire émise par la banque centrale est en concurrence avec la monnaie électronique émise par une entité privée. Nous étudions les issues d’un jeu dans lequel la banque centrale et l’émetteur de monnaie électronique établissent leur propre politique et faisons une série de constats. 1) La politique monétaire optimale de la banque centrale dépend de la politique de l’émetteur privé et peut s’écarter de la règle de Friedman. 2) Il pourrait exister des équilibres multiples. 3) Lorsque l’économie fonctionne presque sans numéraire, la politique optimale de la banque centrale accroît le pouvoir de marché de l’émetteur de monnaie électronique et peut entraîner un léger recul du bien-être ainsi qu’une hausse minime de l’inflation. 4) L’optimum de premier rang ne peut être atteint. -

Les exportations, les importations et l'appréciation du dollar canadien
L'évaluation objective des effets que l'appréciation enregistrée par le dollar canadien en 2003 et 2004 a eus sur les importations et les exportations exige un examen détaillé des nombreux autres facteurs ayant pu entrer en ligne de compte. Dion, Laurence et Zheng analysent les influences qu'ont subies les échanges extérieurs du Canada ces deux dernières années, y compris les mouvements du taux de change, les chocs mondiaux ou sectoriels, les entraves à l'offre nationale de certains produits et la concurrence livrée par les économies émergentes, en particulier la Chine. L'analyse est complétée par des modèles économétriques que la Banque a mis au point et qui fournissent des estimations statistiquement valides de l'incidence de la hausse du dollar canadien sur le profil d'évolution récent des exportations et des importations. -

Dans cette note, nous étudions une fonction d’utilité qui dépend du temps de loisir et de la consommation, en tenant compte de la persistance des habitudes, et dont la forme a) est compatible avec une croissance équilibrée à long terme, b) permet d’atteindre les nombres d’heures travaillées constatés dans les données à l’état stationnaire et c) est conforme aux données microéconométriques relatives à l’élasticité de substitution intertemporelle et à l’élasticité de l’offre de travail de Frisch. -
