Le principal marché de financement aux États-Unis étant celui des pensions, les primes sur les obligations du Trésor américain de l'émission courante devraient présenter un élément commun avec les primes de risque sur les autres marchés. -

Un outil d’évaluation de la vulnérabilité financière du secteur des ménages
Les auteurs s'inspirent du cadre d'analyse utilisé dans la préparation de la Revue du système financier de la Banque du Canada pour examiner l'évolution de l'endettement et de la vulnérabilité financière des ménages face aux changements de conjoncture. La première étape de leur démarche a consisté à comparer deux ensembles de microdonnées tirés de l'enquête Canadian Financial Monitor (CFM) d'Ipsos Reid et de l'Enquête sur la sécurité financière de Statistique Canada. En dépit de leurs différences sur le plan méthodologique, ces enquêtes se sont révélées sensiblement équivalentes, ce qui a permis d'en combiner les informations pour définir la valeur seuil du ratio du service de la dette à partir de laquelle les ménages deviennent vulnérables. L'article décrit ensuite un outil novateur qui met à contribution les microdonnées pour simuler les variations de la distribution du ratio du service de la dette en réponse à divers scénarios de crise. Les auteurs montrent comment ce cadre peut servir à examiner l'incidence de deux scénarios de crise distincts sur la distribution de ce ratio et sur la vulnérabilité des ménages. Cet outil permettra aux chercheurs d'approfondir leur analyse des risques pesant sur la santé financière des ménages canadiens. Les auteurs terminent par quelques observations sur l'orientation à donner aux recherches futures en vue d'affiner l'analyse que la Banque fait des risques pour le secteur des ménages. -

Jusqu’à tout récemment, peu d’efforts étaient consacrés à l’évaluation systématique des différents types de défauts souverains ainsi qu’au calcul de la valeur nominale globale des engagements qu’ils représentent. Afin de remédier à cette lacune, le Groupe chargé de la notation du crédit de la Banque du Canada a développé une base de données exhaustive de défauts souverains, qui se trouve sur le site Internet de la Banque et qui sera dorénavant mise à jour en partenariat avec la Banque d’Angleterre. -
