Le marché canadien des obligations coupon zéro
Une obligation classique est un titre de dette assorti d'un certain nombre de coupons d'intérêt payables périodiquement et d'un montant en principal remboursable à l'échéance. Comme l'indique son nom, l'obligation coupon zéro ne comporte pas de coupons d'intérêt périodiques; elle est remboursable in fine. L'obligation coupon zéro est vendue à un prix inférieur à sa valeur nominale et remboursée à sa valeur nominale à l'échéance. Le rendement obtenu est équivalent à la différence entre la valeur nominale de l'obligation et son coût d'acquisition, qui est inférieur à cette valeur. Dans cet article, l'auteur examine les caractéristiques, à titre d'instrument de placement, de l'obligation coupon zéro. L'auteur s'intéresse en particulier à un type d'obligation coupon zéro, l'obligation coupons détachés, que les courtiers en valeurs mobilières créent en séparant des obligations classiques les coupons d'intérêt. Le marché des obligations coupons détachés s'est considérablement développé au Canada depuis les années 80 et il constitue maintenant un compartiment à part entière du marché canadien des titres à revenu fixe. Son dynamisme accroît la liquidité et l'efficience du marché des valeurs à revenu fixe, ce qui contribue à réduire le coût global du financement pour le gouvernement. -

L'analyse des agrégats monétaires
Ces dernières années, la Banque du Canada a mis davantage l'accent sur l'analyse des variables monétaires et l'élaboration de modèles dans lesquels la monnaie est considérée comme une partie intégrante du mécanisme de transmission. Dans cet article, Dinah Maclean explique de quelles façons la Banque utilise les agrégats monétaires dans l'analyse de la politique monétaire et donne un aperçu des principaux outils et modèles dont se sert l'institution. Le modèle monétaire auquel la Banque a le plus recours actuellement est le modèle vectoriel à correction d'erreurs basé sur M1. Dans ce modèle, les écarts entre l'offre de monnaie et la demande de monnaie à long terme influent sur l'inflation. L'auteure décrit brièvement le paradigme assignant un rôle actif à la monnaie, qui sous-tend ce modèle, et explique les équations clés qui composent ce dernier. Elle esquisse également d'autres modèles empiriques plus simples, notamment des modèles indicateurs à équation unique pour la production basés sur des agrégats monétaires étroits, un modèle neuronal et un modèle fondé sur l'agrégat au sens large M2++. Une annexe fournit des renseignements techniques détaillés sur les équations des différents modèles et les valeurs des coefficients estimés. -
Le taux neutre au Canada : mise à jour de 2019
Cette note met à jour l’évaluation par le personnel de la Banque du taux neutre canadien, c’est-à-dire le taux directeur requis pour maintenir la production à son niveau potentiel et l’inflation à son taux cible, une fois disparus les effets des chocs cycliques. Ce concept de moyen à long terme sert de point de référence pour évaluer le degré de détente monétaire résultant d’une politique donnée. -

The Bank of Canada 2015 Retailer Survey on the Cost of Payment Methods: Nonresponse
Dans l’enquête que la Banque du Canada a menée en 2015 sur les coûts des différents modes de paiement pour les détaillants, la non-réponse est un défi majeur. Elle se présente sous deux formes dans l’enquête en question : la non-réponse totale (une entreprise ne participe pas du tout à l’enquête) et la non-réponse partielle (une entreprise ne répond pas à certaines questions de l’enquête).
