J’étudie la façon dont la concentration du marché bancaire et la dépendance au financement de gros influencent la transmission de la politique monétaire aux taux hypothécaires. Je constate que cette transmission est imparfaite et qu’elle atténue la réaction de la consommation, de la production et des prix des logements. -
Has wage setting changed in Canada? Evidence from the pre-pandemic 2020 Wage-Setting Survey
La Banque du Canada a mené l’enquête sur l’établissement des salaires de 2020 juste avant le début de la pandémie. Cette enquête visait à examiner une tendance inhabituelle, soit l’augmentation modérée des salaires en 2018 et 2019 malgré le resserrement du marché du travail. Même si cette énigme commençait à se résoudre au moment de l’enquête, les résultats montrent des variations de plusieurs facteurs qui pourraient avoir des effets importants sur la dynamique des salaires. -

Coûts des divers modes de paiement : l'argent comptant est-il le moyen le moins onéreux pour les commerçants?
Le jeu de la concurrence force les commerçants à donner aux consommateurs la possibilité de régler leurs achats de biens ou de services par différentes méthodes. Chacune de celles-ci présente, pour les marchands, des coûts et des avantages différents. Pour mieux comprendre les coûts liés à l'acceptation d'un mode de paiement de détail, la Banque du Canada a mené une enquête auprès de plus de 500 commerçants au pays, laquelle a montré que ceux-ci considèrent le paiement au comptant comme le mode le plus économique. Les auteurs examinent cette perception en calculant les coûts de transaction variables associés aux paiements en espèces, par carte de débit et par carte de crédit. Ils constatent que les coûts associés à l'acceptation de chacune des méthodes de règlement varient selon le marchand et la valeur des transactions, les paiements par carte de débit constituant le moyen le moins coûteux pour un large éventail de détaillants. -
Discounting in Mortgage Markets
Les auteurs étudient les rabais consentis sur les taux hypothécaires affichés. Au terme d'un examen détaillé des transactions hypothécaires conclues au Canada, ils constatent une hausse du rabais moyen au fil du temps ainsi qu'une forte dispersion des rabais accordés.
