Financial Frictions, Financial Shocks and Labour Market Fluctuations in Canada
Quels effets les imperfections des marchés financiers ont-elles sur le chômage et l’offre d’emplois au Canada? À l’aide de données canadiennes allant du deuxième trimestre de 1984 au quatrième trimestre de 2010, l’auteure estime un modèle monétaire d’équilibre général dynamique et stochastique intégrant des frictions financières et un marché du travail soumis à des frictions – tiré de Zhang (2011) – afin d’examiner le rôle des chocs financiers dans les fluctuations du marché canadien du travail. -

Saving after Retirement and Preferences for Residual Wealth
Nous estimons un modèle de ménages norvégiens dont l’épargne post-retraite est fondée sur le motif du legs, une utilité dépendante de la santé et une incertitude reliée à la longévité et la santé. Nos estimations semblent indiquer un fort motif du legs, que les ménages aient des enfants ou non. Nous interprétons cela comme une indication que l’utilité de la richesse résiduelle représente des forces allant au-delà d’un motif du legs basé uniquement sur l’altruisme. -
Do Exchange Rates Affect the Capital-Labour Ratio? Panel Evidence from Canadian Manufacturing Industries
En utilisant des données sectorielles sur les industries manufacturières du Canada pour la période de 1981 à 1997, les auteurs obtiennent des résultats empiriques qui montrent la présence d'une relation négative entre le ratio capital/travail et le coût d'usage du capital par rapport au coût du travail. Une hausse de 10 % du coût d'usage des machines et du matériel (MM) comparativement au coût du travail entraîne une diminution de 3,3 % du ratio MM/travail à long terme. -
It takes a panel to predict the future: What the stock market says about future economic growth in Canada
Les ratios d’évaluation sur le marché boursier canadien peuvent aider à révéler les attentes des investisseurs quant à la croissance future de l’économie parce que l’incidence de la croissance économique sur les ratios d’évaluation peut varier dans toutes les industries. Nous constatons que cette variation contribue à produire des prévisions précises de la croissance future du produit intérieur brut réel au Canada. Les prévisions de notre modèle ont baissé d’un peu plus de 3 points de pourcentage entre janvier 2022 et février 2023, soit une période pendant laquelle la Banque du Canada a relevé rapidement le taux du financement à un jour. Nous constatons aussi que les industries sensibles aux taux d’intérêt ont contribué de façon disproportionnée à ce ralentissement attendu de la croissance. -
