The Welfare Cost of Inflation Revisited: The Role of Financial Innovation and Household Heterogeneity
Notre analyse démontre que le ratio monnaie-consommation augmente avec l’âge des ménages et décroit avec la consommation, et que ce ratio a fortement augmenté dans le contexte de très bas taux d’intérêt des dernières années. Nous élaborons un modèle à générations imbriquées de la détention de monnaie pour des motifs de transaction, dans lequel nous introduisons des effets d’âge (l’utilisation de la monnaie augmente avec l’âge des ménages), des effets de cohorte (les jeunes générations font appel à des technologies financières plus évoluées) et des effets temporels (les taux d’intérêt nominaux influent sur la détention de monnaie). -

Cette livraison renferme trois articles où sont décrites les recherches et les analyses du personnel de la Banque du Canada. Le premier actualise les estimations de la Banque quant au biais de mesure entachant l’indice des prix à la consommation canadien. Le second étudie la relation entre le taux directeur à court terme et les taux d’intérêt à long terme à l’aide d’un nouveau modèle de la structure par terme des taux d’intérêt. Le troisième examine les indicateurs de risque de bilan au sein des institutions financières canadiennes. -
On the Welfare Effects of Credit Arrangements
Dans cette étude, les auteurs examinent les effets de différents modes de crédit sur le bien-être et la sensibilité de ces effets au mécanisme de négociation et à l’inflation. Dans un marché soumis à la concurrence, un écart par rapport à la règle de Friedman est toujours sous-optimal. De plus, le crédit peut réduire le bien-être étant donné qu’en accroissant la consommation de ceux qui y ont recours, il fait monter le niveau des prix, obligeant ainsi les utilisateurs de monnaie à réduire leur consommation s’ils sont confrontés à une contrainte de liquidité. -
Labour Reallocation, Relative Prices and Productivity

Funding Liquidity, Market Liquidity and the Cross-Section of Stock Returns
En se fondant sur la théorie, les auteurs vérifient si le risque de financement relie l’illiquidité et la volatilité aux rendements dans un échantillon d’actions. Ils montrent que l’illiquidité et la volatilité des actions augmentent lorsque surviennent des chocs de financement, alors que les rendements contemporains diminuent. -
