International Economic Sanctions and Third-Country Effects
Nous étudions la transmission des sanctions économiques et leur impact sur des pays tiers. Si un groupe de pays tiers ne participe pas aux sanctions, les pertes sont atténuées dans le pays sanctionné et amplifiées dans les pays qui imposent des sanctions, mais il est avantageux pour les pays tiers de ne pas prendre part aux sanctions. -
Optimal Quantitative Easing in a Monetary Union
Comment une banque centrale devrait-elle appliquer un programme d’assouplissement quantitatif au sein d’une union monétaire lorsque la taille des régions de cette union et les caractéristiques de leurs portefeuilles d’obligations sont différentes? Pour en arriver à une politique d’assouplissement quantitatif optimale, il serait souhaitable d’acheter davantage de titres auprès de la région dont le portefeuille subit de plus fortes frictions, plutôt que de privilégier la taille de chaque région. -
Understanding the Time Variation in Exchange Rate Pass-Through to Import Prices
Dans cette étude, nous analysons la présence de variations temporelles dans la transmission des variations du taux de change effectif nominal aux prix des importations pour 24 économies avancées, au cours de la période 1995-2015. À l’instar des études de la littérature publiées précédemment, nous constatons une importante hétérogénéité dans le degré de transmission des variations du taux de change au sein de divers pays. -
A Measure of Underlying Inflation in the United States
Une banque centrale ayant pour objectif premier de préserver la stabilité des prix doit pouvoir distinguer les chocs temporaires qui frappent les prix et les chocs persistants qui touchent le taux d'inflation. The Causal Impact of Migration on US Trade: Evidence from Political Refugees
Les immigrants peuvent accroître les échanges internationaux en ce qu’ils accordent plus d’importance aux biens de leur pays d’origine et réduisent le coût des transactions bilatérales. Nous nous appuyons sur les variations géographiques entre les États américains de 2008 à 2013 pour estimer l’effet causal des immigrants sur les exportations et importations américaines. -
Optimal Monetary and Macroprudential Policies
La coordination optimale des politiques monétaire et macroprudentielle comporte une pondération des risques plus élevée pour les obligations (sûres) lorsque les banques doivent détenir des réserves de fonds propres supplémentaires. Elle implique aussi un certain durcissement de la politique monétaire quand ces réserves sont mobilisées.
