International Financial Crises and Flexible Exchange Rates: Some Policy Lessons from Canada

La productivité au Canada : la taille de l'entreprise importe-t-elle?
Selon les résultats de recherches présentés dans cet article, les différences de taille d'entreprise aident à expliquer une bonne part de l'écart de productivité entre le Canada et les États-Unis. Les auteurs étudient tout d'abord les facteurs à l'origine de la relation positive entre la productivité et la taille de l'entreprise, puis documentent cette relation à l'aide de données canadiennes recueillies au niveau de l'entreprise. Ils examinent ensuite dans quelle mesure l'évolution du poids relatif des grandes entreprises peut expliquer celle de la productivité au Canada et les différences de niveau de productivité entre ce pays et les États-Unis. Ce faisant, ils font ressortir plusieurs facteurs qui jouent un rôle dans la détermination de la taille moyenne des entreprises et de la productivité globale. -

Les tendances de la croissance de la productivité au Canada
Cet article décrit les grandes tendances affichées par la croissance de la productivité du travail au Canada depuis le début des années 1960 et résume les connaissances actuelles des causes des profils observés dans le passé. Une attention particulière est accordée à la seconde moitié des années 1990, durant laquelle le rythme de croissance de la productivité a été beaucoup plus rapide aux États-Unis qu'au Canada. L'auteur analyse les données empiriques sur la contribution des technologies de l'information et des communications aux écarts récents entre le taux de croissance de la productivité au Canada et celui enregistré aux États-Unis. Il examine également d'autres déterminants clés de la productivité d'un pays, notamment la formation du capital humain et l'ouverture aux échanges internationaux. Enfin, il évalue la probabilité que le taux tendanciel de croissance de la productivité augmente au Canada au cours des années à venir. -
