Innovation et concurrence au sein des marchés boursiers canadiens
Les innovations dans le domaine des technologies de l'information et de la communication et la mondialisation concomitante des marchés financiers pourraient provoquer des mutations importantes de la structure des marchés boursiers canadiens. Les bourses établies peuvent maintenant livrer une concurrence plus efficace à l'échelle interrégionale et internationale. D'autre part, la réduction des coûts a aplani les barrières à l'entrée de nouveaux compétiteurs, les systèmes de négociation parallèles (SNP). Face à cette concurrence accrue, les bourses canadiennes ont pris des mesures afin d'améliorer la qualité de leur marché. Tout en reconnaissant les bienfaits de l'innovation sur les marchés canadiens, les organismes de réglementation craignent une fragmentation de la liquidité à court terme. Les Autorités canadiennes en valeurs mobilières ont dévoilé une proposition en vue de limiter le risque de fragmentation et de permettre aux SNP d'entrer en concurrence avec les bourses traditionnelles pour la première fois. Les auteurs présentent un aperçu des marchés boursiers canadiens et de leur structure, en mettant l'accent sur l'évolution récente. -
