L’étude examine comment le marché canadien des contrats à terme a contribué au risque systémique des banques pendant la crise financière de 2008. On constate que, dans l’ensemble, les grandes banques ont pris des positions contre les autres institutions financières, augmentant ainsi leur risque de pertes simultanées. -
A Q-Theory of Banks
Au moyen de données boursières sur les banques, nous montrons que la valeur comptable des prêts tient compte tardivement des pertes. Nous étudions la relation entre les caractéristiques des nouveaux prêts hypothécaires et les tensions financières chez les emprunteurs dans les régions du Canada où le secteur de l’énergie est très présent après l’effondrement des prix du pétrole en 2014. Nous constatons que ceux ayant un avoir propre foncier limité étaient plus susceptibles d’avoir de la difficulté à rembourser leurs dettes. -

Y aurait-il des gains de bien-être si les opérations sur titres à revenu fixe actuellement réalisées sur le marché hors cote (échanges bilatéraux) étaient centralisées sur une plateforme électronique? Analyzing supply and demand for business loans using microdata from the Senior Loan Officer Survey
Les facteurs liés à l’offre et à la demande aident à déterminer le niveau des prêts octroyés aux entreprises au sein de l’économie, mais la plupart des données montrent seulement les effets combinés de ces facteurs sur les prix et les quantités. Les microdonnées sur les conditions de prêt des institutions financières et la demande de prêts qui leur est faite obtenues dans le cadre de l’enquête de la Banque du Canada auprès des responsables du crédit nous permettent de distinguer les effets liés à l’offre de ceux liés à la demande.
